Add your PCs and phones
Install Smile Connect on Windows or Linux, or share an Android phone from the Smile app.
On connect.smilecorp.co.uk, click Add a device and pick what you’re adding. Each one appears under Your devices once it’s signed in.
A Windows PC
- Pick Windows PC and click Download for Windows.
- Run the installer, then sign in with your Smile account.
Leave Smile Connect running - you can only connect to the PC while it’s on and Smile Connect is open.
A Linux PC
- Pick Linux PC and click Download for Linux.
- Make the AppImage runnable: right-click it > Properties > Allow executing as a program, or run
chmod +x Smile-Connect-*.AppImage. - Open it and sign in.
To control a Linux PC (not just see it), it needs an X11 session and xdotool:
sudo apt install xdotool
An Android phone or tablet
- Install the Smile app and sign in.
- Open the Connect tab and turn on Share this phone.
- To allow taps and typing, turn on Smile Connect control in Android’s Accessibility settings. Smile shows an Open settings button that takes you there.
- Allow notifications for Smile, so connection requests pop up. Without them, requests only show on the Connect page.
Turn on Start when this phone turns on if you want to be able to reach it after a restart.
Chromebooks, iPhones, iPads and Macs
These can’t be connected to, but you can use them to connect to your other devices: just open connect.smilecorp.co.uk in the browser.
Updates
The apps update themselves, and every update is checked against Smile’s signature before it’s installed. If you ever need an earlier version, there’s a link to older versions under Add a device.
