Install Smile on Android

Smile for Android runs on Android 9 or newer.

Install

1. On your phone, open auth.smilecorp.co.uk/download and tap Download for Android.
2. Open the downloaded file. The first time, Android asks you to allow installing apps from your browser - allow it, then tap Install.
3. Open Smile, sign in with your Smile account and unlock your vault.

Smile updates itself; Android asks you to confirm each update, and only updates signed by Smile are accepted.

Fill logins and 2FA codes in other apps

1. In Smile, open Settings > Autofill and turn on Fill logins in other apps and browsers. Android asks you to confirm Smile as your autofill service.
2. Choose where suggestions appear: above the keyboard (needs a keyboard that supports it, like Gboard or Samsung Keyboard) or in a dropdown under the box.
3. In Chrome also go to Settings > Autofill services and pick Autofill using another service.

Websites only get the logins saved for their own address, and only in real browsers. Other apps only get logins you’ve linked to them - the first time, pick the login and Smile can remember it for that app.

Passkeys (Android 14 and newer)

In Smile, open Settings > Passkeys and tap Turn on, then switch Smile on in Android’s Passwords, passkeys & accounts settings. Now when a site or app offers Sign in with a passkey - or to save one - choose Smile.

Unlock with your fingerprint (Android 11 and newer)

Settings > Security > Unlock with fingerprint. Type your vault password once to confirm, then touch the sensor. Your password is never stored - only a key made from it, locked in your phone’s secure hardware.

Opmerking

Fingerprint unlock turns itself off if a new fingerprint or face is added to the phone, if you sign out, or if your vault password changes. Turn it on again in Settings.
