Smile app & Smile Auth

Install the Chrome extension

Smile Auth in your browser: fills logins, codes and passkeys on websites.

Updated 26 Sept 20261 min read

The Smile Auth extension works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera. It puts a Smile icon in login boxes: click it for a Log in as… list of what you’ve saved for that site. It fills 2FA codes, signs in with your passkeys, and can scan QR codes straight off the page.

Install

  1. Open Smile Auth on the Chrome Web Store and press Add to Chrome.
  2. Pin Smile Auth from the puzzle-piece menu, click it and sign in.

It updates itself from the store.

  • Edge: on the store page choose Allow extensions from other stores first, then Add to Chrome.
  • Brave: works straight from the store.
  • Opera: add Opera’s Install Chrome Extensions add-on first, then use the store page.
Note

Installed Smile Auth earlier from the .zip (Developer mode)? Remove that copy in chrome://extensions and add it from the store, so it keeps itself up to date. Your vault is in your Smile account, so nothing is lost - just sign in again.

Passkeys

When a website asks to make or use a passkey, Smile Auth shows its own panel at the top right: choose a saved passkey, or save the new one in Smile. Close it to use your phone, a security key or another passkey instead. You can turn this off in the extension’s settings.
